Lady Reds To Close Regular Season With Pioneers and Vikings

 

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's soccer team will end their 2016 season with a pair of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin games. First on the docket will be Carroll University (Wis.) at Art Keller Field on Wednesday, October 26 at 5:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will close the regular season at Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m.
 
Senior day will highlight Carthage's bout with the Pioneers on Wednesday evening as Lauren Szumski, Erin Ganzke, Jessica Larson, Kayla McGuinness, Corinne Brennan, Kendall Craig and Amy Kappelman will be honored.
 
The Lady Reds are currently tied for fourth place with North Central College (Ill.) in the CCIW standings. The Cardinals own the tie-breaker via their 1-0 victory over Carthage on October 1.
 
Maggie Washelesky leads the Carthage offense with five goals and two assists for 12 points on the season. As of today, Washelesky ranks second in the CCIW and 46th in NCAA Division III with four game-winning-goals. McGuinness is next on the Lady Red scoring chart with three goals and two assists for eight points.
 
The Lady Reds will look to find the double-digit win column for the first time since they finished 13-5-1 in 2013.
 
ABOUT CARROLL UNIVERSITY (13-3-1, 4-1-1 CCIW)
 
The Pioneers are in the midst of a six-game win streak. Their previous loss occurred in a 2-1 decision against Illinois Wesleyan University on October 1. The 2016 season marks Carroll's first season back in the CCIW after being a member of the Midwest Conference. The Pioneers won the 2015 MWC Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over Knox. Carroll (Wis.) saw their 2015 season end in a 1-0 loss to UW-Whitewater in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
 
The Pioneers are currently inside the CCIW women's soccer playoff picture with a third-place standing.
 
Delaney Pruitt is an integral part of the Pioneers' success as she owns 12 goals and five assists for 29 points on the season. Pruitt's five game-winning-goals ranks 17th while her 29 points is good enough for 66th among all NCAA Division III women's soccer players.
 
Christine O'Block and Sabrine Sieger have split time in goal for the Pioneers. O'Block paces all Pioneer goalkeepers with a 0.44 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
 
Susie Foster, who coached the Lady Reds from 2005-2010, is in her sixth season as Carroll (Wis.) head women's soccer coach. Carthage owns a 6-7-1 all-time record against Carroll University (Wis.)
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (ILL.) (8-7-0, 2-4-0 CCIW)
 
Augustana College (Ill.) is currently tied for sixth place with Millikin University in the CCIW standings. The Vikings will take on the Big Blue on October 26 before their meeting with the Lady Reds on October 29.
 
The 2015 season saw Augustana College (Ill.) register a 15-5-1 overall record, good enough to earn a berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. University of Puget Sound defeated the Vikings 2-0 in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
 
Jessica Rizzo paces the Vikings in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points. Hannah Lohmeier and Sammi Farkos each rank second on the Augustana scoring chart with 10 points. Bailey Bradford owns a 1.07 goals against average and a .768 save percentage in 15 starts for the Lady Reds.  
 
Scott Meija is in his 16th season as Viking head women's soccer coach. Carthage owns an 8-12-2 all-time record against Augustana College (Ill.).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The top-four teams will be awarded a berth into the 2016 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament. The semifinal games (#1 vs #4, #2 vs. #3) at the highest seed will take place on Wednesday, November 2. The CCIW Championship game at the highest remaining seed will occur on Saturday, November 5.
