Women's Volleyball finishes 1-1 on Day 2 of Dig Panici Classic

The Lady Reds returned to the court on Saturday, October 22nd for day two of the UW-Whitewater Dig Panici Classic in Whitewater, Wis. after a 1-1 finish on Friday.
 
In their first match of the day, Carthage took on the DuHawks of Loras College. The Lady Reds came out strong in the first set and were able to take a commanding 17-6 lead. Although a six-point run brought the DuHawks within striking distance, Carthage was able to close out the set with a final score of 25-18.
 
More of the same would occur in the second and third sets as the Lady Reds would secure a 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-10 and 25-17.
 
As a team the Lady Reds tallied 44 kills, eight service aces, seven blocks, 40 assists, 43 digs, and hit .389. Stephanie Korbakes led the team with 11 kills, accompanied by Stefanie Romanowski with nine and Anna Kinell with eight. Both Shannon Kebisek and Mallory Parsons recorded two service aces, while Romanowski made five blocks. Abagail McGowan connected on 22 assists and Parsons made 14 digs.
 
In their second match of the day, Carthage faced off against #12 UW-Whitewater, the host of the weekend's classic.
 
Both teams rallied the first few points and found themselves tied 3-3. Carthage then made a five-point run with Luci Krenzke serving to take the lead 8-3. The Lady Reds retained the lead for the duration of the set, earning the win 25-20.
 
However, the Lady Reds' good fortune would not last for the remainder of the match as the Warhawks took the next three sets 32-30, 25-11, and 25-19. UW-Whitewater won the match 3-1 over Carthage.
 
As a tea, Carthage completed 56 kills, one service ace, eight blocks, 56 assists, 64 digs, and hit .119.
 
Anna Kinell led the team with 15 kills with Luci Krenzke recording one service Ace. Stephanie Korbakes made five blocks, followed closely by Romanowski with four and Rachel Mickey with two, respectively. Abigail McGowan made 32 assists and Luci Krenzke connected on 27 digs.

On Sunday, Stephanie Korbakes was named to the Dig Panici Classic All-Tournament Team.
 
The Lady Reds return to CCIW-play on Tuesday, October 25th as they take on North Central College at 7 p.m. in Naperville, Ill. Carthage will return to Tarble Arena on Wednesday, October 26th in a 7 p.m. match against North Park University.
