NAPERVILLE, ILL.—There is a fine line between history, and recent history. The Carthage College women's soccer team's 14-3-4 overall record against North Central College heading into their showdown on Saturday afternoon paints a clear picture of their dominance. Recent history suggests otherwise as the Lady Reds were riding a two-game losing skid against the Cardinals dating back the previous two seasons.
Â
Carthage's previous victory over the Cardinals came in a 2-1 decision at Art Keller Field on October 12, 2013. The Lady Reds were looking to return to their historically dominant ways over North Central on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Carthage peppered the Cardinals for 10 shots in the second half. Those shots failed to get past North Central goalkeeper Nicki Seiton in a 1-0 loss for the Lady Reds. Carthage falls to 5-4-0, 0-1-0 CCIW while North Central College improves to 2-5-2, 1-0-0 CCIW.

Â
The Lady Reds were in a 9-4 hole in shots after the first half, but stormed back with 10 in the second half. The Cardinals only mustered a pair of shots in the direction of Carthage goalkeeper
Emily Furmanek in the second half. One of those shots found the back of the net to help secure a 1-0 victory for North Central College.
Â
Jessica DeJong tallied her first goal of the season in the 68
th minute for the Cardinals two minutes after she entered the game to give the Cardinals the 1-0 advantage.
Â
Despite the 1-0 loss, Carthage outshot North Central 14-11 in the game. Furmanek was strong in net for the Lady Reds again, turning away seven shots in 90 minutes of work.
