DECATUR, Ill. – The Carthage College women's volleyball team (13-3, 0-1 CCIW), ranked eighth in the Sept. 29th AVCA poll, fell 3-0 to Millikin University (12-5, 1-0 CCIW) on Tuesday, Sept. 29th in Decatur, Ill.
A very competitive and fast-paced first set ensued in the match, and after some back-and-forth scoring from both teams, Millikin came away with the win 32-30.
Millikin made the first point of the game and after a few points going each way the Carthage was able to tie the score 4-4. Millikin then went on an eight-point run to make the score 12-4 in favor of the Big Blue. Millikin would keep the lead for the remainder of the set and win 25-13, making the score 2-0.
The third set started the same as the two previous with both teams close in score. Millikin then took a short lead at 5-2 and would keep the lead for the remainder of the set. The Big Blue would go on to win the set 25-20 and secure the 3-0 win over the Lady Reds.
Emily Heuermann completed 10 kills in the three-set match, along with
Stefanie Romanowski's three blocks and
Karen Chin's 31 assists.
Blaire Barnett and Chin each earned 7 digs.
As a team the Carthage recorded 36 kills, four aces, six blocks, 32 assists, 33 digs and hit .152 in comparison to Millikin's 48 kills, seven aces, five blocks, 40 assists, 42 digs and hitting percentage of .300.
Carthage will travel to Platteville, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 3rd in compete in the "2015 UW-Platteville Triangular" on the campus of UW-Platteville. The Lady Reds will take on Kalamazoo College at Noon and UW-Platteville at 2 p.m. at the Williams Fieldhouse.
