WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday to close-out the weekend competition at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational, falling to the Warhawks, 3-1, in the day's opener, before topping Williams College in the second match of the day.

The number-six ranked Lady Reds (13-2) dropped only their second match of the season in the morning match falling in four sets to host, and number-15 ranked, UW-Whitewater.

After falling behind 4-0 early in the first set, the Lady Reds were able to eventually draw even at 22-22, but the Warhawks rattled off three-straight points to  take the first set.

After taking the second set 27-25, Whitewater was able to win the third and fourth sets to take the match.

Emily Heuermann led the Lady Reds with 21 kills in the match, while Karen Chin contributed 50 assists and Luci Krenzke added a match-high 28 digs.

The loss was the first of the season for Carthage against a ranked team, as the Lady Reds were previously 4-0 against the American Volleyball Coaches Association's top-25.

The Lady Reds rebounded and took down the number-25 ranked Williams College Ephs in straight-sets.  The number-six Lady Reds dominated the match winning 25-20, 25-16 and 25-11.

The Lady Reds hit .333 as a team and registered 43 kills while holding the Ephs to just 22 total kills and .012 hitting percentage.

Emily Heuerman once again led the Lady Reds' attack with 10 kills and tied Luci Krenzke with nine digs in the match.  Stefanie Romanowski led the Carthage defensive effort with four blocks at the net and Karen Chin had five aces and 31 assists on the 43 team kills.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Karen Chin was named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational all-tournament team.
