STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Carthage College women's soccer team won their second game of the season, and their first on the road, Wednesday, September 23rd, knocking off the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 1-0, at Point Soccer Stadium.
Â
Carthage applied constant pressure down the stretch with a number of opportunities that were just out of the Lady Reds reach to apply a finishing touch.Â
Â
However, in the 82nd minute the Lady Reds would get the games lone goal as a long ball from
Rachel Post in the midfield found a forward
Maggie Washelesky in stride and after a couple touches buried a shot down the middle into the upper net.
Â
For Washelesky, the goal is her team-leading fourth of the season and Post's first assist.
Â
Carthage goalkeeper
Kate Perry made four saves in the match, none bigger than with just over a minute remaining as the Pointers final attack was halted by Perry's save. The win was the first career shutout for Perry in just her third career start.
Â
Carthage dominated much of the attacking aspect of the match with an 18-12 edge in total shot, and a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Carthage also dominated corners with a 8-2 advantage.
Â
The Lady Reds return home for their next match Satruday, September 26th as the Lady Reds play host to Rhodes College at 1:00 pm at Art Keller Field.
