Red Men top the Wittenberg Tigers 4-1 on Sunday, Sept. 20th in the "2015 Battle on the Border"

Carthage to host Robert Morris-Lake County on Sat., Sept. 26th

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's soccer team (4-4) faced the Wittenberg University Tigers (2-5-2) in the final match of the "2015 Battle on the Border" on Sunday, Sept. 20th at 3 p.m. on Art Keller Field at Carthage College.

The Red Men scored their first goal as Jake Bukiri scored on a penalty kick in the second minute of the game. Later in the first half, Carthage's Sahr Mahoney converted on a ball from Nathaniel Michaelis and Bukiri to score the second goal of the game in the 35th minute. Carthage led the game 2-0 heading into the second half.

Ivan Chavez scored the first goal of the second half in the 66th minute of the game, assisted by Jovanni Anzaldi. Michaelis scored the fourth and final goal for Carthage in the 76th minute of the game off of an assist by Michael Modesti.

Wittenberg would not shutout, however, as Nick Foley made a shot that went flying into the net in the 87th minute, assisted by Alberto Zaragoza. This would be the last goal of the match, as Carthage would secure their win 4-1 over the Tigers.

"After three tough one goal matches against top regional opponents it was nice to result," said Carthage head coach Steve Domin, "We have a really really nice side but I forget how young we truly are.  Expectations are always high here so have to be aware this is a process."

Carthage had a total of 26 shots, 15 of them on the goal, seven saves and seven corner kicks. This is in comparison to Wittenberg's only 12 shots, eight of them on goal, 11 saves and five corner kicks.

"Their keepers were the men of the match, and they did a nice job of keeping us at bay for stretches," sadi Domin, "[Giles] Phillips and Sahr were our motivation today, while we are still fighting to be more precise in front of the goal."

Wittenberg's Austin Lewis (52:55) and Carthage's Kevin Mahoney (70:03) both received single cautions in the game.

The Red Men will take on the Robert Morris-Lake County Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 26th at home on Art Keller Field in a 7 p.m. matchup.
