MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Carthage College men's soccer team dropped the first-of-two matches in the Upper Midwest Classic", once again in heartbreaking fashion, Friday, Septeber 11th, as the Red Men fell, 2-1, in double overtime after playing down a man the final 60 minutes of regulation against Concordia College – Moorhead.Â

Carthage (3-2-0) dominated the possession and the box score outshooting Concordia (1-3-0) 18-4, forcing more shots as Carthage had a 5-3 advantage on target, and earned two more corners than Concordia. But it wasn't meant to be Friday as Carthage was unable to find the net playing down a man.

Carthage had to play most of the match with 10 men when
Ivan Chavez was sent off after receiving a red card in the 30th minute.

"Down a man for the majority of the match and really dominating the possession and the shots is just frustrating witnessing what happened," said head coach
Steve Domin.

Concordia broke the scoreless tie in the 78th minute when Nick Koerbitz gave the Cobbers a 1-0 lead late.

Carthage was able to get the short-handed equalizer in the final minute of regualtion as
Austin Bitta scored his second goal of the season off a
Jamie Tausend assist.
Â
In the first overtime period, Carthage continued to dominate play but in the first minute of the second overtime period, as a Concordia serve into the box deflected off a Carthage defender and past
Evan Bott for the sudden death winner.

"I trust we will be better because of the adversity," stated Domin. Â "and we have to be because we have another haul against a good team."

Carthage will play their second match of the Upper Midwest Classic Sunday, September 11th when the Red Men visit the University of Wisconsin-Superior at the Yellow Jacket Soccer Complex at 11 a.m.
