The Carthage College men's tennis team (17-6, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked No. 16 in the April 9 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III Central Region poll, completed a perfect conference season after defeating CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 12-6, 4-1 CCIW), 5-4, on Thursday, April 23, at the Wheaton Tennis Courts in Wheaton, Ill.  The Thunder were ranked No. 18 in the regional poll.

Carthage's Pawel Jaworski (So., Deerfield, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson, 14-11) fell to the Thunder's Josh Ward, who is ranked No. 19 in the region, at No. 1 singles, the latter winning 7-6(5), 6-0. Alex Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 21-5) lost at No. 2 singles, falling to Wheaton's Justin Ancona 6-7(3), 7-6(6), 10-6. Ryan Jump (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein, 20-3) was a winner at No. 3 singles, edging out Matt Steiner 7-6(3), 7-6(2). Jordan Verbauwhede (Jr., Whitelawe, Wis./Manitowoc-Lincoln, 19-9) lost at No. 4 singles, however, Chris Conley (Jr., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 22-6) was a winner at No. 5 singles, as was Alex Ferruzzi (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 18-8) at No. 6 singles.
 
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Jaworski and Verbauwhede (18-6) came back to defeat the Thunder's duo of Ward and Karl Wenzel 9-7, after being down in the pro-set 3-5. The team of Boomgarden and Conley (18-5) fell at No. 2 doubles, however, the pair of Jump and Ferruzzi (9-5) were successful at No. 3 doubles, winning their match over Wheaton 8-6.
 
The Red Men play host to the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship on Thurs.-Sat., Apr. 30-May 2 at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis. First round matches on Thursday will begin at noon, Friday's matches will get underway at 9 a.m., and the finals on Saturday will start at 10 a.m.
