KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's soccer team dropped a high scoring non-conference affair Monday evening as the Lady Reds and the Spartans of Aurora University combined for eight goals in the 5-3 loss at Art Keller Field.
Â
The loss drops the Lady Reds to 5-11-1 overall on the season and closes out the 2015 non-conference slate for Carthage.
Â
Monday was the third consecutive game that Carthage put three goals into the back of the net but it wasn't enough as the loss snaps the Lady Reds three-game unbeaten streak.
Â
After two early goals by Aurora, Carthage got on the scoreboard as
Corinne Brennan slipped a ball behind the Spartan defense where
Danielle Noverini slotted the ball to the back post past the charging goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 32nd minute and her second goal on the year.
Â
Following an Aurora goal to open the second half, Carthage would once again cut into the two-goal difference as
Talia Jaramillo found
Rachel Post off a corner kick and Post headed in cleanly for her third goal of the season.
Â
Aurora's offense would net two more goals moments later just three minutes apart to regain a 5-2 lead.
Â
Carthage wouldn't give up as
Maggie Washelesky added to her team lead in goals with her 11th of the season as
Amy Kappelman sent in a fantastic cross from 25 yards out which Washelesky headed in from the back post.
Â
Post nearly cut it to a one goal game in the final moments off another corner but a diving save by the Aurora goalkeeper secured the win for the Spartans.
Â
Carthage will now focus on the final game of the regular season when they host Elmhurst College Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Art Keller Field. Carthage currently sits in fourth place in the CCIW holding the fourth and final berth into the CCIW tournament.Â
Â
The Lady Reds currently have seven points in the CCIW with a 2-3-1 conference record. Elmhurst and North Central are currently tied for fifth with six points and two conference games remaining for each.
