The Carthage College men's track and field team (41-15-1 outdoor record), ranked 14th in April 28 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III outdoor poll, tied for second place at the Friday-Saturday, May 2-3 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at North Central College's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill.
 
North Central (Ill.) won its 36 league title with 228 points.  Carthage and Augustana College (Ill.) tied for second place with 201 points each, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 78, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 63, Millikin University sixth at 18, Elmhurst College seventh at 17 and North Park University eighth with 12 points.
 
Carthage took the top-four spots in the hammer throw.  Derrik Guyette (Jr., Hortonville, Wis.) won the event (178-5), with Branden Miller (Jr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) finishing second (165-8), Mark Balmes (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) third (163-8) and Josh Bergman (So., Beloit, Wis./Clinton) fourth (163-1).  Trevor James (Sr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) won the high jump (7-2 ¼).  James took several shots, with one near-miss, at the NCAA Division III record of 7-4 ¼ set by Kym Orr from the State University of New York-Fredonia in 1985 and matched by Eric Taylor-Perry from Wheaton College (Mass.) in 1997.  James cleared a school-record 7-2 ½ at the Drake Relays on April 26, which is tied for second place all-time with Wisconsin-Stout's Mike Kundinger from 1993 and Raheim Greenridge, also from Wheaton (Mass.) from 2000. 
 
Darin Ward (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) won both the long jump (22-3 ¾) and the 110-meter hurdles (14.71), while finishing second in the triple jump (45-5 ¼).  Quenten Austin (So., Vandalia, Ill./Community) won the decathlon (4,612 points) and Mark Balmes won the discus (162-0)  Reggie Miller (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill./South) was second in the long jump (21-8), as was Derrik Guyette in the shot put (53-8 1/2) and Kendric Cornelius (So., Palatine, Ill.) in the 400-meter dash (48.46).  Branden Miller finished third in the both the discus (150-8) and the javelin (166-10).  Calvin Callahan (Jr., Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence) was third in the pole vault (14-6 ¾), as was Mark Balmes in the shot put (52-8 ¾) .
