The Red Men advance to a Friday, May 2 semifinal match against Wheaton (Ill.) at the Wheaton Sports Center in Wheaton, Ill., beginning at 11:30 a.m. On the other side of the bracket, fourth-seeded Augustana College (Ill., 16-10, 3-3) blanked fifth-seeded North Central College (8-10, 2-4), 5-0, in first-round match on Tuesday at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill. The Vikings advance to take on top-seeded Elmhurst College (13-4, 6-0) in a Friday semifinal contest, also at 10 a.m.
In the win over Millikin, Carthage's
Alex Boomgarden (So., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 20-12) defeated the Big Blue's Emerick Fulton at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Ryan Jump (So., Mundelein, Ill., 20-9) won over Chris Klomp at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Pawel Jaworski (Fr., Deerfield, Ill., 20-9) was a winner at No. 3 singles, as was
Chris Conley (So., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 19-10) at No. 4 singles,
Tony O'Connell (So., Roswell, N.M./Natabua, 22-8) at No. 5 singles and
Alex Ferruzzi (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 17-11) at No. 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of
Pawel Jaworski and
Chris Conley (10-6) won their match, as did the Red Men's No. 2 team of
Alex Boomgarden and
Ryan Jump (11-4) and the No. 3 tandem of
Tony O'Connell and Alex Feruzzi (6-5).
