"Eagle Invitational" ResultsChicagoland Outdoor Championship ResultsThe Carthage College men's track and field team (26-9 outdoor record), ranked 18th in April 7 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III outdoor poll, finished third at the Saturday, April 12 Benedictine University (Ill.) "Eagle Invitational" at the Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. Aurora University won the 12-team event with 156 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University second at 121 and Carthage third with 98 points.
Derrik Guyette (Jr., Hortonville, Wis.) won the hammer throw (171-7) and finished second in the shot put (51-7 ¼).
Mark Balmes (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) won the shot put (51-11 ¾) and finished third in the discus (156-7).
Branden Miller (Jr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) took second in both in the hammer throw (160-11 ¾) and the javelin (161-2 ½), and
Ron Banks (Jr., Waukegan, Ill.) was second in the long jump (22-6 ¼).
The Red Men also sent a partial squad to the Thursday-Saturday, April 10-12 Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Lewis University Stadium in Romeoville, Ill. Carthage finished seventh in that event. North Central College won the 20-team championship with 180.50 points, followed by Lewis second at 122, Illinois-Chicago third at 73, the University of Chicago and DePaul University tied for fourth place at 60 each, Valparaiso University sixth at 48 and Carthage seventh with 47 points.
Carthage picked up a win at the Chicagoland event from its 4x400-meter relay team of
Mike Brown (Jr., St. Charles, Ill./East), Cornelius,
Mike Gulik (So., Elgin, Ill./Burlington-Central), and
Aryan Avant (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) with a time of 3:20.80.
Darin Ward (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) took second place in the 110-meter hurdles (14.79),
Cale Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) fourth in the triple jump (44-4) and Kendrick Cornelius (So., Palatine, Ill.) fifth in the 200-meter dash (49.46).
Carthage travels to Rock Island, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, April 18-19 for the Augustana College (Ill.) "Meet of Champions" at Ericson Field (3 p.m./10 a.m.)/
