Red Men Await Word on Monday Regarding an NCAA At-Large Berth

Box Score The Carthage College men's volleyball team (22-7, 10-0 Continental Volleyball Conference West Division), ranked fourth in the April 8 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, lost to No. 3 Juniata College (26-4), 3-0, on Saturday, April 12 in the semifinals of the Continental Volleyball Conference Tournament at Thiel College's Beeghley Gymnasium in Greenville, Pa.  The Eagles' winning set scores over the Red Men were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-18.
 
The tournament gets underway on April 12 with a pair of first-round matches.  No. 14 Lakeland College (21-7) defeated Thiel College (13-17), 3-1, in one first-round match, and with No. 3 Juniata College (25-4) winning over Dominican University (Ill., 13-14), 3-1, in the other first-round contest.  In the other semifinal contest, No. 13 Stevenson University (21-7) outlasted Lakeland (21-8), 3-2.  Juniata (27-4) swept Stevenson (21-8), 3-0, in the Sunday, April 13 championship match.
 
In the loss to Juniata, Paul Kuhn led the Eagles with 13 kills and a .455 attack percentage.  Jim Schultz (Sr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Red Men with 12 kills and a .222 attack percentage.  Jon Storm (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had eight kills and J.P. Tulaka (So., Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove-North) seven kills.  Setter Connor Wexter (Sr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 10.33 assists per set.  Tulaka was named to the all-tournament team.
 
Carthage must now await word from the NCAA regarding a possible at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship.  The NCAA will announced the field for the 10-team championship on Monday, April 14 at 9 a.m., CDT.
