The Carthage College men's track and field team (33-6 indoor record), ranked 21st in the Feb. 12 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished third at the Saturday, Feb. 15 Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at North Central College's Al B. Carius Track in Naperville, Ill.
 
North Central (Ill.) won the 17-team event with 159.50 points, followed by Lewis University second at 99, Carthage third at 90, Illinois-Chicago fourth at 83.50, the University of Chicago fifth at 45, St, Xavier University sixth at 37, Chicago State University seventh at 33, Wheaton College (Ill.) eighth at 22, Benedictine University (Ill.) ninth at 20, Wisconsin-Parkside 10th at 17, Robert Morris University (Ill.) 11th at 15, Aurora University 12th at 13, Trinity Christian College 13th at 12, Harper College 14th with seven points, Elmhurst College and the College of DuPage tied for 15th place with four points each and Calumet College of St. Joseph 17th with one point.
 
Carthage's Derrik Guyette (Jr., Hortonville, Wis.) won the shot put (54-10 ¼) and took second in the weight throw (58-8 ½).  The Red Men also collected wins from Trevor James (Sr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) in the high jump (6-10 ¼) and Darin Ward (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.25).  For Ward, the victory in the hurdles was his third this year in four meets.  Mark Balmes (So. Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) was second in the shot put (52-11 ½).  Robert Liss (So., Hinsdale, Ill./Central) was third in the 60-meter dash (7.10), as was David Goodalis (So., Naperville, Ill./Central) in the weight throw (52-9 ½).
 
Carthage travels to Stevens Point, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the Wisconsin-Stevens Point "Eastbay Invitational" at the Quandt Fieldhouse, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
