The Carthage College men's track and field team (19-3 indoor record), ranked 17th in the Jan. 29 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, won the Friday, Jan. 31 Carthage "Tadd Metzger Invitational" at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage won the nine-team event with 202 points, six points ahead of second-place and No. 12 Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 196. Wheaton College (Ill.) was third at 68, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside fourth at 47, Concordia University (Wis.) fifth at 44, Carroll University (Wis.) sixth at 35, Illinois-Chicago seventh at 29, Edgewood College eighth at 25 and Northwestern University ninth with 14 points.

Carthage's
Derrik Guyette (Jr., Hortonville, Wis.) won both the shot put (53-0) and the weight throw (57-10 ½).Â
Darin Ward (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) won the 55-meter high hurdles (7.89) and took third place in the triple jump (44-2 ½).Â
Robert Liss (So., Hinsdale, Ill./Central) finished first in the 55-meter dash (6.70), as did
Kendric Cornelius (So., Palatine, Ill.) in the 400-meter dash,
Trevor James (Sr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) in the high jump (6-4 ¾) and
Calvin Callahan (Jr., Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence) in the pole vault (13-7 ¼).Â
Ron Banks (Jr., Waukegan, Ill.) was second in the long jump (22-0 ¼), as was
Mark Balmes (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) in the shot put (51-3) and
David Goodalis (So., Naperville, Ill./Central) in the weight throw (55-2).

Jason Lobojko (Sr., Wood Dale, Ill./Bensenville-Fenton) was third in the 55-meter dash (6.77), as was
Cale Brown (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 600-meter run (1:23.94),
Mike Gulik (So., Elgin, Ill./Burlington-Central) in the 800-meter run (1:58.12),
J.D. Fuller (Jr., Woodstock, Ill.) in the 1,000-meter run (2:35.72) and
Quenten Austin (So., Vandalia, Ill./Community) in the high jump (5-10 ¾). The Red Men also picked up a win from their 4x400-meter relay team.

Carthage plays host to the "Red Invitational" on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 7-8 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis. (3:30 p.m./11 a.m.).
