Women's Volleyball Goes 4-0 at the Oct. 31-Nov. 1 Benedictine (Ill.) "Eagles Classic"

No. 17 Lady Reds Travel to Wheaton (Ill.) on Tuesday

The Carthage College women's volleyball team (31-3, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked 17th in the Oct. 28 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 4-0 at the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 31-Nov. 1 Benedictine University (Ill.) "Eagle Classic" at the Dan & Ada Rice Center in Lisle, Ill. 

The Lady Reds opened tournament play on Friday, Oct. 31 with a 3-0 win over Benedictine (8-21) and a 3-2 decision over No. 30 DePauw University (23-8)  Carthage's winning set scores over the Eagles were 25-7, 25-10 and 25-10, and its winning scores over the Tigers were 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 15-12.  On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Lady Reds swept both Dominican University (Ill., 22-10) and Bluffton College (20-11), 3-0.  Carthage's winning scores over Dominican (Ill.) were 25-10, 25-21 and 25-22, and its winning scores over Bluffton were 25-18, 25-23 and 25-11.
 
Mallory Parsons (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill.) led the Lady Reds in the Benedictine match with eight kills and a .353 attack percentage, while Emily Heuermann (Jr. Washington, Ill.) added seven kills.  Setter Karen Chin (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) collected 29 assists and 12 digs.  In the win over DePauw, Heuermann had 18 kills at hit .250, Parson had 17 kills with a .344 mark and three block assists, Rachel Fields (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) had 13 kills, and Bria Hailey (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) collected 10 kills with a block solo and four block assists.  Hannah Cahoon (Sr., Watertown, Wis.) collected 26 digs and Chin 58 assists. 

Fields had 10 kills in the Dominican (Ill.) match, while Heuermann had eight kills with a .444 attack percentage.  In the win over Bluffton, Field led the way again with 11 kills, while Parsons had eight kills and hit .353 and Chin collected 34 assists.  Parsons and Chin were named to the all-tournament team.
 
Carthage concludes its regular-season schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a CCIW-match versus Wheaton College (Ill., 12-19, 4-2 CCIW) at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill.
