No. 14 Women's Volleyball Clinches Outright CCIW Title on Nov. 4

Lady Reds Go 7-0 to win Carthage's 10th Conference Championship

The Carthage College women's volleyball team (32-3, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked 14th in the Nov. 4 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, closed out its regular-season schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a 3-0 sweep of CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 12-20, 4-3 CCIW) at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Thunder were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-18.

With the win, Carthage clinched an outright CCIW championship, the school's 10th overall and its first since the 2011 season.  The Lady Reds won in 1990 and 1993 under head coach Mary Secor and have won eight title under head coach Leanne Ulmer.  Under Ulmer, Carthage won a co-championship with Elmhurst in 2004 and outright titles in 2005-09, 2011 and 2014.  
 
Three Carthage players had 10 kills each.  Emily Heuermann (Jr. Washington, Ill.) had 10 kills with a .350 attack percentage.  Mallory Parsons (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill.) had 10 kills and hit .261, while Rachel Fields (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) had 10 kills and hit .240.  Stefanie Romanowski (So., Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) had eight kills and hit. 727 (8-0-11) with four block assists, and setter Karen Chin (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) collected 41 assists.
 
On Friday-Saturday, Nov. 7-8, Carthage will play host to the CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.  The top-seeded Lady Reds (32-3) will play fourth-seeded and No. 17 Elmhurst College (30-7) in a 7 p.m. semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 7, preceded by the other semifinal contest between the second-seeded and No. 23 Millikin University (29-8) and third-seeded Wheaton College (Ill., 12-20) at 4:30 p.m.  The Saturday, Nov. 8 tournament-championship match gets underway at 2 p.m.
