Men's Soccer Loses to Millikin, 1-0, on Oct. 25

Red Men Play Host to the Illinois Institute of Technology on Tuesday

The Carthage College men's soccer team (8-9-0, 2-4-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) lost to CCIW-opponent Millikin University (7-7-1, 2-3-0 CCIW), 1-0, on Saturday night, Oct. 25 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The loss to the Big Blue eliminated the Red Men from qualifying for the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament.

Ben Spelman gave the Big Blue a 1-0 lead at 35:43 first period with a goal assisted by Nick Abel.  That was all of the scoring.  Carthage out-shot Millikin, 24-7, and the Red Men had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Big Blue goalkeeper Daniel Sinclair collected seven saves, with Carthage goalie Nick Huftalin (Sr., Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) getting four saves.

"If you don't score, you can't win," said Carthage coach Steve Domin.  "It's that simple  It has been a really, really odd year.  While we've dominated teams in terms of possession and shots, we haven't had the results we'd liked to see.  The margin of error in the CCIW is so thin, and we have just ended up on the wrong side of it."

Carthage plays host to the Illinois Institute of Technology (11-3-1) on Tuesday, Oct. 28 in a 7 p.m. game at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
