Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (9-9-0, 2-4-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) evened its season record on Tuesday night, Oct. 28 with a 2-0 win over non-conference opponent the Illinois Institute of Technology (11-4-1) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The win over the Scarlet Hawks snapped a three-game Red Men losing streak.
Carthage broke a scoreless tie at 31:18 first half on a goal by
Michael Dombrowski (Sr., Johnsburg, Ill.), his 10th of the year and on a rebound from a save by Scarlet Hawks goalkeeper Euijin Yang.
Ryan Crane (Sr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson) scored at 53:37 second half to put the Red Men up, 2-0. Carthage out-shot IIT, 16-3, and the Red Men had a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks, with Carthage goalie
Nick Huftalin (Sr., Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) picking up two saves.
"With a senior class of 16 players, this game worked perfectly," said Carthage coach
Steve Domin. "We were able to feature each senior, who was healthy enough to play, in our last regularly-scheduled home game. This group has been a part of 50-plus wins, but more importantly, 50-plus experiences and memories. It's hard not to put this wave of guys in that category of past groups who have also raised championship banners, competed in conference championships and made NCAA appearances. They'll be missed."
Carthage closes out its schedule on Saturday, Nov. 1 with a 7:30 p.m. contest against CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (10-4-3, 3-2-1 CCIW) at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst, Ill.
