Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By Steve Marovich, Sports Information Director

Men's Soccer Loses at No. 21 North Park, 2-1, on Oct. 22

Red Men Play Host to Millikin on Saturday

The Carthage College men's soccer team (8-8-0, 2-3-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) lost to CCIW-opponent and No. 21 North Park University (12-3-0, 4-0-0 CCIW), 1-0, on Wednesday night, Oct. 22 at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.  The Vikings were ranked third in the Oct. 21 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll and the Red Men 10th.

North Park took a 1-0 first-half lead when Kebba Sanyang scored, unassisted, at 14:02, and that was all of the scoring.  Each team had 15 shots, with the Vikings getting six shots-on-goal to five for the Red Men.  The corner kicks were even at four apiece.  Carthage goalkeeper Jovani Mata (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Westchester-St. Joseph) and North Park goalie Wesley Woodley each had five saves.

"North Park is fine team," said Carthage coach Steve Domin, "and we just gave them a couple looks at the goal on our own mistakes.  That was the difference in the game.  It felt like we were fighting up hill in the second half, and for the second-straight game, we just couldn't find the net.  This is a resilient group which competes very hard every match.  If we can get a few guys back, we will get on track."

The Red Men play host to conference-opponent Millikin University (6-7-1, 1-3-0 CCIW) on Saturday, Oct. 25 in a 7:30 p.m. game at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
