The Carthage College men's soccer team (8-7-0, 2-2-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) lost to CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 9-4-1, 1-1-1 CCIW), 1-0 in overtime, on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Thorson-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill.
Â
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first two periods before Augustana's Rahul Bhatia broke the deadlock with a goal at 94:46 in overtime. Carthage had a narrow, 13-12 edge in shots, while Augustana enjoyed a 6-2 margin in corner kicks. Vikings goalkeeper Brett Johnson and Red Men goalie
Jovani Mata (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Westchester-St. Joseph) each had three saves.Â

"Today was a total trap game for us," said Carthage coach
Steve Domin. "We spent a lot of energy this week playing regionally and nationally-ranked opponents like Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton, and we were without legs, quite frankly.  It was a tail of two halves. Augustana spent a ton of energy in the first half, and we just couldn't get off the bus. In the second half, we really came on and thought we would close it out even without playing our best soccer. We are a very good team that just got a little unlucky with some shots off frame. Overall, I thought it was a fair result as much as it hurts."
The Red Men travel to Chicago on Wednesday, Oct. 22 to play CCIW-opponent and No. 21 North Park University (11-3-0, 3-0-0 CCIW) in a 7:30 p.m. game at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.Â
