The Carthage College men's track and field team (11-3 indoor record), ranked 19th in the pre-season U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished fourth at the Friday, Jan. 24 North Central College "Cardinal Opener" at the Al B. Carius Track in Naperville, Ill.
The host-Cardinals won the five-team event with 149 points, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse second at 139, Wisconsin-Oshkosh third at 116, Carthage fourth at 66 and St. Norbert College fifth with 10 points.
Carthage's
Trevor James (Sr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) took second place in the high jump (6-8 ¾), as did
Darin Ward (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) in the 60-meter high hurdles (8.47).
Mark Balmes (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) was third in the shot put (52-6 ¾), as was
Nick Blakey (Sr., St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) in the triple jump (43-2 ½) and
Aryan Avant (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the 400-meter dash (50.44).
The Red Men play host to the Carthage "Tadd Metzger Invitational" on Friday, Jan. 31 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.
