Carthage 7, Lawrence 2
The Carthage College women's tennis team (1-1, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) evened its season record at 1-1 on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3 with a 7-2 win over Lawrence University (1-2) at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's Bari Reynolds (Sr., Sterling, Ill., 1-1) defeated Lawrence's Gayatri Malhotra at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Haleigh McPeek (Jr. Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 0-2) fell to the Vikings' Hannah Geoffrey at No. 2 singles, Geoffrey winning, 7-6(2), 7-6(5). Abbi Howell (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest, 2-3) was a winner at No. 3 singles. Eliza Barter (Fr., Deerfield, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy, 2-3) lost at No. 4 singles. Holly Weber (Sr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central, 2-0) was a winner at No. 5 singles, as was Kelsey Bowen (Sr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township, 2-1) at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Reds' No. 1 doubles team of Reynolds and McPeek (4-1) defeated Hannah Geoffrey/Ali Heiring, 8-5. Carthage's No 2 team of Howell and Barter was a winner over Lawrence, as was the No. 3 tandem of Weber and Kristen Kalinka (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph, 4-1).
On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Lady Reds travel to Naperville, Ill., for a CCIW double-dual match at the North Central College Tennis Courts. Carthage takes on North Central (Ill.) at 9 a.m. and Millikin University at Noon.
