The Carthage College men's track and field team (20-14 outdoor record) finished sixth at the Friday-Saturday, April 5-6 Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Lewis University Stadium in Romeoville, Ill.
North Central College won the 22-team event with a 178 team score, followed by DePaul University second at 128, Olivet Nazarene University third at 78, Illinois-Chicago fourth at 73, the University of Chicago fifth at 63.50, Carthage sixth at 56, Wheaton College (Ill.) seventh at 43, Lewis eighth at 37.50, Chicago State University ninth at 32, Loyola University (Ill.) 10th at 24, the College of DuPage 11th at 23, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Harper College tied for 12th place at 15 points each, Concordia University (Chicago) 14th at 14, North Park University and St. Xavier University tied for 15th place at 13 points each, Benedictine University (Ill.) 17th at 12, Wisconsin-Parkside 18th at 10, Aurora University and Valparaiso University tied for 19th place with eight points each and Oakton Community College and Calumet College of St. Joseph tied for 21st place with four points each.
Carthage's
Eric Schmidt (Sr., Kewaunee, Wis.) won the hammer throw (177-3 ½).
Derrik Guyette (So., Hortonville, Wis.) was second in the shot put (48-7 ¾), fourth in the discus (146-0) and fifth in the hammer throw (158-6 ¼).
Branden Miller (So., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) took fourth in both the hammer throw (160-0 ¾) and the javelin (184-9), and
Aryan Avant (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was fifth in the 400-meter dash (49.53).
Dustin Parker (Sr., Waterford, Wis./Union), who fractured a toe on Feb. 2 at the Illinois Wesleyan University “Bob Keck Invitational,” returned to action by competing in the 1,500-meter run. Parker broke the toe while racing the third leg of the 4x400-meter at the Shirk Center. The injury occurred with 160 meters to go, but he struggled the rest of the way and made the handoff to his teammate while holding second place with a split-time of 53.70. Parker had surgery four days later and wore a cast for three weeks.
Carthage travels to Lisle, Ill., on Saturday, April 13 for the Benedictine University (Ill.) “Eagle Invitational” at the Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex, beginning at 10 a.m.
