Wisconsin Private College Championship Results
The Carthage College men's track and field team (47-20 outdoor record) finished second at the Saturday, April 27 Wisconsin Private College Track and Field Championship at St. Norbert College's Donald J. Schneider Stadium in De Pere, Wis.
The host-Green Knights won the eight-team event with 192 points, followed by Carthage second at 135, Ripon college third at 125, the Milwaukee School of Engineering fourth at 107, Concordia University (Wis.) fifth at 95, Edgewood College sixth at 55, Wisconsin Lutheran College seventh at 25 and Lakeland College eighth with four points.
Carthage's Mark Balmes (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) won the discus (161-11) and finished second in the shot put (50-10 ¾), and
Derrik Guyette (So., Hortonville, Wis.) won the shot put (51-3 ¾) and took second in the hammer throw (173-7).
Branden Miller (So., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) won the javelin 173-9).
Eric Schmidt (Sr., Kewaunee, Wis.) took second in the discus (154-4) and third in the hammer throw (167-9). Dan August (Jr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:09.39), as was Quenten Austin (Fr., Vandalia, Ill./Community) in the javelin (160-6).
D'Monti Fedele (Jr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) was third in the pole vault (12-1 ½).
Carthage also sent a partial squad to the Friday-Saturday, April 26-27 Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The Red Men's
Trevor James (Jr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) took fifth in the high jump (Carthage-record 6-11 ½).
Carthage travels to Decatur, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, May 3-4 for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Millikin University's Frank M. Lindsay Field.
