The Carthage College men's tennis team (10-8, 2-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated non-conference opponent Lake Forest College (9-11), 7-2, on Wednesday night, April 24 at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 16-12) won his No. 1 singles match over the Foresters' John Adams, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5).
Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 19-8) defeated Mike Riley at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 19-6) was a winner at No. 3 singles, as was
Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 6-15) at No. 4 singles and
Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 19-9) at No. 5 singles.
Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 11-13) lost at No 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (16-10) was a winner over the Bluejays' Adams and Riley, 8-1. The No. 2 doubles team of
Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and
Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic, 7-13) lost their match, but the No. 3 tandem of Jump and Howes (12-9) was a winner.
On Saturday, April 27, the Red Men conclude their regular-season schedule by playing host to a double-dual match at Smeds Tennis Center. Carthage takes on conference-opponent Augustana College (Ill.) at 9 a.m. and non-conference opponent Edgewood College at 3 p.m.
