Augustana (Ill.) Results
The Carthage College men's track and field team (0-6 outdoor record) opened its outdoor season on Friday night, March 22 by finishing sixth at the Washington University (Mo.) “Mini-Meet” at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.
Wisconsin-Platteville won the seven-team event with 265.16 points, followed by Washington (Mo.) second at 125.50, Loras College third at 120.33, Lincoln College fourth at 80, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 54, Greeneville College sixth at 50 and Carthage seventh with 39 points.
The Red Men's
Ron Banks (So., Waukegan, Ill.) finished second in the long jump (20-2 1/2). Quenten Austin (Jr., Vandalia, Ill./Community) was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.59), as was
Cale Brown (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the long jump (19-8). Kevin Ringier was sixth in the long jump (19-6 ¾),
Nick Blakey (Sr., St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.05),
Aryan Avant (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) seventh in the 400-meter dash (50.31) and
D'Monti Fedele (Jr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) seventh in the long jump (19-5 ½).
The Red Men also sent several throwers to the Saturday, March 23 at the Augustana College (Ill.) “Viking Olympics” at Ericson Field in Rock Island, Ill. Mark Balmes (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) finished second in the discus (155-4) and fourth in the shot put (47-7 ¾).
Derrik Guyette (So., Hortonville, Wis.) was second in the shot put 50-8).
Branden Miller (So., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) was third in both the discus (148-0) and the javelin (135-8) and fourth in the hammer throw 154-2).
Eric Schmidt (Sr., Kewaunee, Wis.) took fifth place in both the discus (136-1) and the hammer throw (149-4).
Carthage travels to Naperville, Ill., on Thursday-Friday, March 28-29 for the North Central College “First Chance Invitational” at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium (4 p.m./12:30 p.m.).
