Men's Volleyball Goes 4-0 at the March 16-17 Carthage/MSOE Tournament

No. 3 Red Men Travel to Cardinal Stritch on Thursday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College men's volleyball team (20-6, 3-0 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked third in the March 12 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 4-0 at the Saturday-Sunday, March 16-17 Carthage/Milwaukee School of Engineering Tournament at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. 

Carthage swept both Thiel College (10-7) and Medaille College (13-13) by identical, 3-0 scores on Saturday, March 16.  The Red Men's winning set scores over the Lions were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20, and their winning scores over the Mavericks were 25-18, 26-24 and 25-19.
 
On Sunday, March 17, Carthage swept Vassar College (16-8) and Endicott College (16-8), both 3-0.  The Red Men's winning set scores over the Brewers were 25-27, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20, and their winning scores over the Gulls were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16.
 
In the win over Thiel, Pat Barry (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) collected a match-high 12 kills with a .276 attack percentage, while setter Connor Wexter (Jr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 12.33 assists per set.  Dante McCoy led Thiel with 11 kills.  Barry also led both teams in the Medaille contest with 15 kills and a .382 attack percentage.  Wexter averaged 11.00 assists per set against the Mavericks with four block assists.   
 
In the win over Vassar, Barry had a match-high 21 kills with a .229 attack percentage, and Jon Storm (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added 14 kills.  Setter Connor Wexter averaged 11.50 assists per set.  Matt Elgin led Vassar with 13 kills.  Barry led the Red Men again in the tournament-finale against Endicott with 15 kills and a .333 mark, along with two block assists.  Jeff Beach (Jr., St. Charles, Ill./North) added 11 kills with a .667 attack percentage, while J.P. Tulaka (Fr., Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove-North) had nine kills with a .316 average, one block solo and six block assists.  Wexter averaged 12.67 assists per set.  John Osbourne led the Gulls with seven kills.
 
Carthage travels to Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 20 to play Cardinal Stritch University (19-8) in a 7 p.m. match at the Stritch Gym.
