The Carthage College men's track and field team (43-12-1 indoor record), ranked 25th in the Feb. 20 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America NCAA Division III poll and 10th in the USTFCCA Midwest Region poll, finished third at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.
North Central College won its 13th indoor title, all in a row, with 250 points, followed by Augustana College (Ill.) second at 131, Carthage third at 114, Illinois Wesleyan University fourth at 63, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 49, North Park University sixth at 28, Millikin University seventh at 15 and Elmhurst College eighth with 13 points.
Carthage went one-two-three in the weight throw, with
Derrik Guyette (So., Hortonville, Wis.) winning the event (59-11 ¼),
Eric Schmidt (Sr., Kewaunee, Wis.) placing second (58-6 ¾), David Goodalis (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Central) third (51-8 ¼), Mark Balmes (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) fifth (51-3 ½) and
Branden Miller (So., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) sixth (50-8 ¾). The Red Men went one-two in the shot put, with Guyette the winner (55-1 ½), Mark Balmes second (51-3 ¾) and David Goodalis fifth (49-11 ¾). Guyette, who broke Bill Versen's 1977 Carthage record of 54-7 in the shot put, was named the “field athlete of the meet.” Click

Cale Brown (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the triple jump (45-3 ¾) and took fifth in the long jump (22-1 ¾).
Trevor James (Jr., Maywood, Ill./Chicago-Hope Academy) won the high jump 6-8 ¼). Quenten Austin (Fr., Vandalia, Ill./Community) was fourth in the heptathlon (4,533 points), as was Kendric Cornelius (Fr., Palatine, Ill.) in the long jump (22-5 ¾).
Aryan Avant (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished sixth in both the 200-meter dash (22.75) and the 400-meter dash (50.44), and
Nick Blakey (Sr., St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) was sixth in the triple jump (43-4 ½).
Carthage plays host to the “Gill Athletics Final Qualifier” on Friday, March 1 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 3:30 p.m.
