Box Score 2 The Carthage College men's volleyball team (9-4, 0-0 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked fourth in the Feb. 12 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, split a pair of matches at a home triangular on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage defeated St. Xavier University (2-11), 3-0, before losing to Lindenwood University (5-6) by a 3-2 margin. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Cougars were 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16, the Lions' winning scores over the Red Men were 18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-23 and 15-12. Lindenwood (4-6) swept St. Xavier (2-12), 3-0, in the middle match with winning set scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-21.
In the win over St. Xavier, Carthage's
Pat Barry (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) collected a match-high 15 kills, along with a .478 attack percentage. J.P. Tulaka (Fr., Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove-North) and
Jon Storm (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added seven kills each, with setter Conner Wexter (Jr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaging 11.67 assists per set. Sam Kull led St. Xavier with nine kills and a .438 attack percentage.
In the loss to Lindenwood, the Lions' Tim Huizinga led the way with 15 kills, while Michael Adams had 14 kills.
Jim Schultz (Jr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Red Men with 15 kills and a .355 attack percentage.
Pat Barry and
Jon Storm had 13 kills each, and J.P. Tulaka added 12 kills with four block assists. Setter
Connor Wexter averaged 11.40 assists per set.
Carthage travels to Quincy, Ill., on Sunday, Feb. 24 to take on Quincy University in a 3 p.m. contest at Pepsi Arena.
