Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College men's volleyball team (5-1, 0-0 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked second in the 2013 pre-season American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept its way through the Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 26-27 Thiel College Tournament at Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville, Pa.
 
On Saturday, Jan. 26, Carthage swept Penn State-Behrend (0-1), 3-0, and swept Thiel (2-1), also 3-0.  The Red Men's winning set scores over the Behrend Lions were 25-14, 25-17 and 25-23, and their winning scores over the Thiel Tomcats were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-20.  On Sunday, Jan. 27, Carthage swept Penn State-Altoona (1-4) and Eastern Mennonite University (3-2), both 3-0.  The Red Men's winning set scores over the Altoona Lions were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-10, and their winning scores over Royals were 25-16, 25-10 and 25-19.
 
In the win over Penn State-Behrend, Pat Barry (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) led the way with a match-high 12 kills and a .417 attack percentage.  Matt Klingspohn (So., Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) had eight kills with a .467 mark and setter Connor Wexter (Jr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 10.0 assists per set.  In the win over Thiel, Jon Storm So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) led the way with 12 kills and hit .579. 
 
Pat Barry led the Red Men with eight kills in nine attempts for an .889 attack percentage in the sweep of Penn State-Altoona, while J.P. Tulaka (Fr., Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove-North) had six blocks (3 solo, 3 assisted).  In the win over Eastern Mennonite, Jon Storm collected 12 kills with a .611 attack percentage, while Barry had 11 kills and hit .421.  Jim Schults (Jr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) collected five blocks (3 solo, 2 assisted), and Wexter averaged 11.0 assists per match.
 
Carthage returns to Thiel College on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 9-10 for the Continental Volleyball Conference East/West Crossover Tournament.  On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Red Men play Stevenson University at 2 p.m. (all times EST) and Juniata College at 6 p.m.  On Sunday, Feb. 10, Carthage takes on Cairn University at 10 a.m. and Thiel at 2 p.m.
