Carthage 3, MSOE 1
The Carthage College men's volleyball team (26-4, 7-1 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked first in the April 3 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, closed out its regular-season schedule on Wednesday, April 4 with a 3-1 win over CVC-opponent the Milwaukee School of Engineering (18-13, 4-4 CVC) at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Raiders were 21-25, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-13. Carthage has won a school-record 15-straight matches since losing to Quincy University on March 9.
Carthage's
Randy Hansen (Sr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) totaled a match-high 17 kills with a .375 attack percentage, while
Pat Barry (So., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) had 14 kills with a .444 mark and five block assists.
Tyler Frings (Sr., Hubertus, Wis./Milwaukee-Pius XI) had eight kills and eight block assists, and setter
Connor Wexter (So., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 12.75 assists per set.
The Red Men travel to Greenville, Pa., on Friday-Saturday, April 13-14 for the CVC Tournament at Thiel College's Beeghly Gymnasium. The tournament gets underway on Friday, April 13 with the University of California-Santa Cruz (seeded second in the West Division) playing Thiel College (seeded third in the East Division) at 4 p.m. (all times EDT), and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (seeded third in the West Division) playing Stevenson University (seeded second in the East) at 7 p.m. Juniata College (seeded first in the east with a first-round bye) plays on the UC-Santa Cruz vs. Thiel winner on Saturday, April 14 in an 11 a.m. semifinal match, with Carthage (seeded first in the west with a first-round bye) playing the MSOE-Stevenson winner at 1 p.m. in the other semifinal contest. The tournament-championship match gets underway at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.
