Men' s Tennis Loses to both Wheaton (Ill.) and Monmouth on April 14

Red Men Play Host to Elmhurst on Wednesday

The Carthage College men's tennis team (14-7, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost both ends of a Saturday, April 14 double-dual match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.  Carthage fell to CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 11-5, 3-0 CCIW) and Monmouth College (13-9) by identical, 5-4 scores.
 
Carthage Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 21-9), ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, lost both of his No. 1 singles contests, falling to Wheaton's Taylor Johnson, Johnson winning 6-1, 7-5, before losing to Monmouth's Chris Franco, Franco winning, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.  Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 23-6) defeated the Thunder's Joshua Ward, 6-0, 6-0, before winning over the Fighting Scots' David Johnson, 6-3, 7-5.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 18-5) won both of his No. 3 singles matches, .  Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 9-18) lost both of his No. 4 singles contests, as did Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 14-16) at No. 5 singles and Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 11-15) at No. 6 singles. 
 
The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (27-2), ranked second in the region won over both Wheaton (Ill.) and Monmouth, as did  Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (17-7).  The Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 9-15) lost both of their matches.  Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (10-6, 2-1 CCIW) on Wednesday, April 18 in a 3:30 p.m. match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
