The Carthage College men's track and field team (7-2) finished second at the Saturday, March 31 North Central College “First Chance Invitational” at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill.
The host-Cardinals won the 12-team event with 254.50 points, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point second at 154, Carthage third at 95, the College of DuPage fourth at 58, Harper College fifth at 54, Wheaton College (Ill.) sixth at 53, Wisconsin-Parkside seventh at 48, Benedictine University (Ill.) eighth at 16.50. Wisconsin-Stout ninth at 13, and Wisconsin-Madison tied for 10th place with Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 10 points each.
Carthage's
Greg Raimondi (Sr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norridge-Ridgewood) won the discus (155-4), while taking second place in both the hammer throw (186-5) and the shot put (50-5 ¼).
Andrew Olinger (Sr., Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) won the triple jump (42-6 ¼), and
Derrik Guyette (Fr., Hortonville, Wis.) won the shot put (52-7 ¼).
Branden Miller (Fr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) was second in the javelin (167-11) and
Eric Schmidt (Jr., Kewaunee, Wis.) third in the hammer throw (164-0).
The Red Men travel to Chicago on Saturday, April 7 for the Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field, beginning at 11 a.m.
