No. 1 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Lindenwood on Feb. 12

Red Men Take a Seven-Match Win Streak to Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne on Friday

The Carthage College men's volleyball team (7-1, 0-0 Continental Volleyball Conference), ranked first in the Feb. 7 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, extended its winning streak to seven matches on Sunday, Feb. 12 with a 3-0 sweep of Lindenwood University (7-5) at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.  The Red Men's winning set scores over the Lions were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21.
 
Carthage broke an 8-8 tie in the first set with three-straight points to take an 11-8 lead, en route to a six-point win, 25-19.  The Red Men were leading set two, 12-11, before they gradually pulled away, taking a 21-16 edge before winning by a 25-18 margin.  The third-and-final set was close, with the Lions taking a 12-9 lead.  Following ties at 12-12 and 20-20, Carthage took the lead, to stay, 21-20, and went on to claim a four-point win, 25-21.
 
Carthage hit .455 as a team, while holding Lindenwood to a .226 mark.  Randy Hansen (Sr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) had a match-16 kills and hit .462, while Pat Barry (So., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) collected 13 kills and hit .333 (10-1-20) with three block assists.  Tyler Frings (Sr., Hubertus, Wis./Milwaukee-Pius XI) had six kills, hit. 750 and added a block solo with five block assists.  Setter Connor Wexter (So., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 10.33 assists per set.  Aaron Porter topped St. Xavier with nine kills and a .450 attack percentage.  J.M. Plummer, Jack Mitchell and Logan Jarus had eight kills each for Lindenwood.
 
Carthage travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., on Friday, Feb. 17 to play NCAA Division I Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne (7-4) in a 7 p.m., EST match at the Hilliard Gates Sport Center.  On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Red Men take on NCAA Division I foe and No. 8 Ohio State University in 3 pm., EST match at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
