The Carthage College men's track and field team (34-14 indoor record) finished second at the Saturday, Feb. 11 Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at North Central College's Al B. Carious Track in Naperville, Ill.
North Central College won the 18-team event with 195 points, followed by Carthage second at 69, Illinois-Chicago third at 57, Chicago State University fourth at 53, Lewis University fifth at 47, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) sixth at 39, the University of Chicago seventh at 34, Wheaton College (Ill.) eighth at 28, the College of DuPage ninth at 26, Harper College 10th at 25, Benedictine University (Ill.) 11th at 20, Aurora University 12th at 16, Concordia University (Chicago) 13th at 14, Elmhurst College 14th at 12, North Park University 15th with nine points, DePaul University and St. Xavier University tied for 16th place with six points each and Oakton Community College tied for 18th place with the Illinois Institute of Technology at three points each.
Carthage's
Greg Raimondi (Sr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norwood-Ridgewood) won the weight throw (59-6 ¼) and finished second in the shot put (51-7 ¼).
Derrik Guyette (Fr., Hortonville, Wis.) won the shot put (51-8 ¼).
Jake Mahaffey (Jr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) was second in the 5,000-meter run (Carthage-record 15:11.31), as was
Cale Brown (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in the triple jump (44-7).
Eric Schmidt (Jr., Kewaunee, Wis.) was third in the weight throw (55-9).
The Red Men's 4x400 relay team of
Marshall Stewart (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Brown,
Nick Blakey (Jr., St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) and
Aryan Avant (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), while having their two-week winning streak snapped, set a Carthage record with a time of 3:19.97 in finishing second. The 4x400 relay team is currently ranked seventh in NCAA Division III.
Carthage travels to Stevens Point, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 18 for the Wisconsin-Stevens Point “Eastbay Invitational” at the Quandt Fieldhouse, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
