Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (9-3-0, 1-1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 23rd in the Oct. 2 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division III poll and third in the NSCAA Central Region poll, got by CCIW-opponent Millikin University (3-9-0, 0-3-0 CCIW), 2-1 in overtime, on Saturday night, Oct. 6 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
Following a scoreless first period, Carthage broke the tie with a goal by
Michael Dombrowski (So., Johnsburg, Ill.), his sixth of the year and assisted by
Drew Liogas, at 67:36. At 89:26, following a pair of corner kicks by the Big Blue, Millikin goalkeeper Daniel Sinclair ran all the way down the field to boot a goal, his first of the year, to tie the game at 1-1 in regulation. In overtime, following a pair of Carthage corner kicks, the Red Men's Flip Dyminski (So., Crystal Lake, Ill./Woodstock-Marian Central Catholic) scored the game winner, assisted by
Mike Heika, The Red Men out-shot the Big Blue by a 19-4 margin.
"Tonight felt like a potential 'trap' game for us,” said Carthage coach
Steve Domin. “After spending so much energy a man down versus Wheaton a few days ago, coupled with not having the services of a few key players tonight, we knew we could be in hangover mode a touch. Really, the man of the match was their goalkeeper; save after save highlighted by scoring in the final minute of regulation as an extra man was really the most excitement of the night. I think our midfield core of
Drew Liogas,
Stephen Korosis and
Taylor Pignataro are really starting to click and were highly effective, but we need to continue to find ways to get in the net."
Carthage entertains non-conference opponent Rockford College (1-11-1) on Sunday, Oct. 7 in a 3:30 p.m. game, also at Art Keller Field.
