Schoffstall Nets Twice in Firebirds' Narrow Loss

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to North Central (Ill.) on Saturday night at Art Keller Field, as the Firebirds scored twice but were unable to overcome a second-half surge by the Cardinals in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Eli Schoffstall scored in the 26th minute. North Central responded with three goals in the second half, including two in a four-minute span, before Schoffstall added his second goal of the night in the 64th minute.

How it Happened
  • Carthage opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Schoffstall found the back of the net with a right-footed, one-touch finish following a corner kick that North Central was unable to clear.
  • The Firebirds carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime, with goalkeeper Juan Camilo Rodriguez Prada making five saves in the opening 45 minutes to help preserve the lead.
  • North Central equalized in the 50th minute when Javi Landin scored off a corner kick.
  • The Cardinals took the lead in the 54th minute. Jonas Mund finished a chance in the box following a free kick, with Eltayeb Mahmoud and Landin credited with assists.
  • Carthage answered in the 64th minute as Schoffstall scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Dominic Gadalinski, bringing the Firebirds within one at 2-2.
  • North Central regained its two-goal advantage in the 67th minute when Marco Costabile scored off an assist from Ivan Hooshmand.
