Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (14-5-0, 4-3-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) needed overtime to defeat CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (11-5-0, 4-3-0), 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.  The Titans were ranked third in the Oct. 24 NCAA Division III Central Region poll and sixth in the Oct. 23 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll.

With the win, the Red Men pulled into a third-place tie with the Titans.  Carthage will be the third-seeded team in next week's CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament and will travel to Chicago on Wednesday, Oct. 31 to take on North Park University (11-2-4, 5-0-2 CCIW) in a semifinal game at the Holmgren Athletic Complex, beginning at 7 p.m.  Fourth-seeded Illinois Wesleyan will travel to top-seeded and No. 16 Wheaton College (Ill., 14-3-2, 6-0-1 CCIW) on Wednesday for the other semifinal contest.  The highest-remaining seed after the semifinals plays host to the title game on Saturday, Nov. 3.

In the win over Illinois Wesleyan, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in regulation.  Carthage's Stephen Korosis (Jr., Lindenhurst, Ill./Lake Villa-Lakes Community) broke the ice with a goal at 96:28, his fifth of the year and assisted by Jordan Innis.  Carthage had a 12-9 edge in shots over Illinois Wesleyan.

"There was a reason these two teams were ranked in the region,” said Carthage coach Steve Domin.  “We put on an entertaining match, and you really have to credit Illinois Wesleyan's senior group with a ton of spirit and energy.  We have yet to step on the field with all our pieces healthy, but if we can find a way to do that things, could get really exciting down the stretch.”
