No. 34 Carthage Women's Volleyball Sweeps North Park on Oct. 23

Lady Reds Earn the Second Seed in the CCIW Tournament

Box Score The Carthage College women's volleyball team (20-11, 5-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), tied for 34th place in the Oct. 23 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, closed out its regular-season CCIW-schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 23 with a 3-0 sweep of North Park University (6-19, 0-7 CCIW) at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. 

Carthage will be the second-seeded team next week in the CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament and will play host to seventh-seeded Augustana College (Ill.) a Tuesday, Oct. 30 play-in match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 7 p.m.  Elmhurst College (26-7, 7-0 CCIW), ranked ninth nationally, won its 10th league title on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of third-seeded North Central College (22-7, 5-2 CCIW).  The Bluejays are the top-seeded team in the tournament and will play host to eighth-seeded North Park University.  Sixth-seeded Wheaton College (Ill.) travels to third-seeded North Central College, with No. 4 Millikin University playing host to No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan University in the other play-in contest.
 
In the Lady Reds' win over the Vikings, Carthage's Bria Haliey collected a match-high 12 kills with a .667 attack percentage (12 kills, 0 errors, 18 attempts) while Emily Heuermann (Fr., Washington, Ill.) and Katie Stensland (Sr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) had eight kills each.  Setter Karen Chin (Fr., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 7.33 assists per set.  Shelby Switzer led North Park with eight kills.
 
The Lady Reds wrap up non-conference play at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 26-27 Illinois Wesleyan University “Barker Chevrolet Volleyball Classic III” at the Shirk Center Bloomington, Ill.  Carthage takes on the University of Dallas at 5 p.m. and Anderson University at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.  On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Lady Reds play Eureka College at 10 a.m. and Central College at Noon.
