Results

The Carthage College men's track and field team (10-10 indoor record) finished third at the Friday, Jan. 27 Carthage “Tadd Metzger Invitational” at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis.  

Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the eight-team event with 165 points, followed by Illinois-Chicago second at 135, Carthage third at 126, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) fourth at 91, Carroll University (Wis.) fifth at 62, Wisconsin-Parkside sixth at 56, Concordia University (Wis.) seventh at 30 and Oakton Community College eighth with 13 points.
 
Carthage's Jake Mahaffey (Jr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) won the 5,000-meter run (15:32.55), and Cale Brown (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) took first place in the triple jump (46-1 ¼).  The Red Men went one-two-three in the shot put, with Derrik Guyette (Fr., Hortonville, Wis.) winning the event at 50-9 ¾, followed by Greg Raimondi (Sr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norwood-Ridgewood) second at 49-3 ¾ and Danny Diaz (So., Cicero, Ill./Morton East) third at 44-2 ¼).  Raimondi also won the weight throw (58-2). 

Eric Schmidt (Jr., Kewaunee, Wis.) was second in the weight throw (57-1 ½), and Aryan Avant (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finished third in the 200-meter dash (22.89).  The Red Men also picked up a win from their 4x400-meter relay team of Marshall Stewart (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), Brown, Nick Blakey (Jr., St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) and Avant. 

Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4 for the Illinois Wesleyan University “Bob Keck Invitational” at the Shirk Center (3 p.m./11 a.m.).
