Women's Swimming Upends Wheaton (Ill.), 162-100, on Jan. 21

Lady Reds Play Host to the Wisconsin Private College Championship Next Saturday

The Carthage College women's swimming team (7-1 dual meet record) defeated Wheaton College (Ill.), 162-100, on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.  For the Lady Reds, the win was their first-ever dual-meet decision over the Thunder, who have won 14-straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Swimming Championships.
 
Carthage's Ashley Gladis (Fr., Batavia, Ill./Batavia) triumphed in three events, the 100 breaststroke (1:09.61), the 200 breaststroke (2:30.29) and the 200 IM (2:13.40).  Gladis was also part of a first-place 200 medley relay team, along with Jensena Paul (Sr., Portage, Wis./Portage), Kelly Loftus (So., Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) and Megan Shover (Fr., Prospect Heights, Ill./Arlington Heights-St. Viator) with a time of 1:52.60.
 
Kelly Loftus had two first-place finishes in the in the 100 butterfly (1:00.70) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.78) and a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:14.48).  Ember McCoy (So., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won both the 200 freestyle (1:57.55) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:50.68). 

The Lady Reds also collected wins from Natalia Bialecka (So., Des Plaines, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) in the 50 freestyle (25.33) Lisa Perdue (Fr., Whittier, Calif.) in the 100 freestyle (55.21) and Susan Peinsipp (So., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) in the 200 butterfly (2:14.06).  Perdue tied for second with Megan Shover in the 50 freestyle (25.39).  Jensena Paul finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.65) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:18.28).  Carthage's 400 freestyle relay squad of McCoy, Paul, Bialecka and Perdue was also a winner with a time of 3:41.75.
 
The Lady Reds will play host to the Wisconsin Private College Swimming Championship on Saturday, Jan. 28, also at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center, beginning at Noon.
