Red Men Play Host to the Wisconsin Private College Championship Next Saturday

The Carthage College men's swimming team (4-5 dual meet record) defeated Wheaton College (Ill.), 149-111, on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. 

Carthage's Kyle Drake (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won three events, taking first place in the 100 backstroke (52.75), the 100 freestyle (47.63) and the 200 IM (1:57.33).  Drake was also part of a runner-up 200 medley relay team, along with Scott Pinter (So., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community), Doug Schranck (Sr., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) and Mitch Reecher (Fr., Byron, Ill./Byron) with a time of 1:38.76.
 
Doug Schranck finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:00.03), followed by Tyler Smith (Jr., Farmington, Minn./Farmington) in third with a time of 2:03.67.  Schranck had another victory in the 100 butterfly (53.30) in front of Benjamin Ertl (Fr., Phillips, Wis./Phillips) in second (54.68) and Smith in third (55.03).  Ertl also had a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.88) and a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke (56.72).
 
The Red Men also claimed victories by Teryn Solun (Fr., St. John, Ind./Lake Central) in the 1,000 freestyle (9:58.51), Eric Ross (Sr., West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) in the 500 freestyle (4:49.08) and Scott Pinter in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.41).  Solun also finished third in the 500 freestyle (4:54.53).  Ross and Pinter collected second-place finishes for the Red Men, Ross in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:12.88 and Pinter in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.33.
 
The Red Men will play host to the Wisconsin Private College Swimming Championship on Saturday, Jan. 28, also at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center, beginning at Noon.
