The Carthage College men's track and field team (3-2-1 outdoor record) opened its outdoor schedule on Friday-Saturday, April 1-2 by finishing in a fourth-place tie at North Central College “First Chance Invitational” at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill. The host Cardinals won the nine-team event with 225.50 points, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point second at 117, Harper College third at 105.50, Carthage and Wheaton College (Ill.) tied for fourth at 86 each, the College of DuPage sixth at 80, Benedictine University (Ill.) seventh at 40, Wisconsin-Parkside eight at 24 and Aurora University ninth with three points.
Carthage's Greg Raimondi (Jr., Harwood Heights, Ill./Norwood-Ridgewood) won both the discus (156-4 ¼) and the hammer throw (160-4 ½). Jose Flores (Jr., Round Lake, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) took first place the 800-meter run (1:56.13). Jarrayl Johnson (Sr., Flossmoor, Ill./South Holland-Thornwood) was second in the shot put (49-6) and Brad Fortney (Sr., Antioch, Ill./Community)took third place in the discus (149-1 ¾).
Carthage travels to Chicago on Saturday, April 9 for the Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field, beginning at 10 a.m.
