The Carthage College indoor track and field teams played host to the Carthage “Gill Athletics Last Chance Invitational” on Friday, March 4 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis. No team scores were kept.

For the women, Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) won both the shot put (51-11 ½) and the weight throw (57-1 ¾). The Lady Reds also collected wins from Carnesha Johnson (Fr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) in the 55-meter dash (7.40), Patti Laufenberg (Fr., Waunakee, Wis.) in the 400-meter dash (1:00.39), Katie Kummerer (Fr., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) in the 800-meter run (2:24.83), Samantha Nelson (Fr., Oshkosh, Wis./West) in the 55-meter high hurdles (9.05), Stephanie Moy (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) in the pole vault (10-6) and Joslyn Drew (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the triple jump (34-6 ½).

On the men's side, Jarrayl Johnson (Sr., Flossmoor, Ill./South Holland-Thornwood) won the shot put (53-3), and Josh Brennan (Sr., Geneva, Ill.) finished first in the weight throw (60-4 ½).  Part of the Carthage team also traveled to Stevens Point, Wis., on Saturday, March 5 for the Wisconsin-Stevens Point "Pointer Qualifier."

Carthage hopes to have several qualifiers for the Friday-Saturday, March 11-12 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Capital University Center Fieldhouse in Columbus, Ohio.

For the Lady Reds, Mindy Harrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) is an automatic qualifier in both the shot put and the weight throw. Carthage women's provisional qualifiers, none of whom have yet been invited to the national championship, include Ashura Jenkins (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) in the 55-meter dash (ranked seventh nationally), Ahvia Greene (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the weight throw (ranked 18th), Sarah Thompson (Jr., Byron, Ill.) in the pentathlon (ranked 13th) and Christine Nelson (Jr., Rock City, Ill./Dakota), also in the pentathlon (ranked 21st.).
