The Carthage College men's volleyball team (19-9, 8-0 Midwest-III Volleyball Conference), ranked third in the March 22 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, defeated St. Xavier University (7-15), 3-1, on Friday, March 25 at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Cougars were 25-27, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20.
Randy Hansen (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) topped the Red Men with 16 kills and a .324 attack percentage, along with three block assists. Tom O'Connell (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had 12 kills and hit .207 with five block assists, while Tyler Frings (Jr., Hubertus, Wis./Milwaukee-Pius Xi) added nine kills with a .368 attack percentage and six block assists. Setter Connor Wexter (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 12.0 assists per set.
Aaron Porter led St. Xavier with 14 kills and four block assists, and Justin Cousin had 10 kills. On Saturday, March 26, the Red Men journey on to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (11-9) in a 7 p.m., EDT match at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
