The Carthage College men's volleyball team (14-8, 4-0 Midwest-III Conference), ranked 10th in the Feb. 22 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, completed a four-game sweep at the Baruch College Tournament at Baruch's ARC Arena in New York, N.Y., on Sunday, Feb. 27 with wins over Newbury College (13-9) and No. 8 Rivier College (22-6). Carthage defeated Newbury, 3-0, with winning set scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17, and won over Rivier, 3-1, with winning scores of 25-15, 25-19, 19-25 and 27-25. Statistics from Sunday's matches are not yet available.

On Saturday, Feb. 26, the Red Men opened tournament play by defeating No. 4 the University of California-Santa Cruz (4-7), 3-1, before sweeping No. 9 Baruch, 3-0. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Banana Slugs were 21-25, 25-21, 26-24 and 28-26, while their winning scores over the Bearcats were 25-20, 27-25 and 25-23. Carthage opened its three-day trip to New York City on Friday, Feb. 25 with a 3-1 win over No. 7 New York University (9-5) at the Coles Sports Center. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Violets were 25-23, 26-24, 20-25 and 25-20.

In the win over No.4 California-Santa Cruz on Feb. 26, Carthage's Jim Schultz (Fr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) had 13 kills with a .267 attack percentage and three block assists, while Tom O'Connell (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had 12 kills. Sal La Cavera led the Banana Slugs with 14 kills…in the win over No. 9 Baruch College, also on Feb. 26, Carthage's Tim Walker (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University High School) collected a team-high 15 kills with a .636 attack percentage. Randy Hansen (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) had 11 kills and hit .280, while Tom O'Connell collected 10 kills with a .500 attack percentage. Setter Connor Wexter (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 15.7 assists per set. Pablo Oliveira topped Baruch with a match-high 16 kills.

in the win over Newbury College on Feb. 27, Matt Yanz (Jr., Bolingbrook, Ill./Naperville-Central) collected a match-high 13 kills and hit .750 (13-1-16) with two block solos and two block assists, while Randy Hansen had 10 kills and hit .300. Connor Wexter averaged 14.33 assists per set. Matt Talamantes topped Newbury with nine kills…Tom O'Connell led the Red Men with 17 kills and a .375 attack percentage in the Feb. 27 win over No. 8 Rivier College. Randy Hansen had 13 kills and hit .450, while Jim Schultz added 10 kills with four block assists. Connor Wexter averaged 11.50 assists per set. Jared Andreozzi led Rivier with 15 kills.

Carthage plays host to the Midwest-III Conference Crossover Tournament II on Friday-Sunday, March 4-6 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage plays the College of Mount St. Joseph (1-9, 0-4 M-III) on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 5, the Red Men take on Thiel College at 2 p.m. and Fontbonne University at 6 p.m.
