The Carthage College men's volleyball team (5-8), ranked 11th in the Feb. 8 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept Fontbonne University (2-4), 3-0, on Saturday night, Feb. 12 at Maybee Gymnasium in St. Louis, Mo.
The Red Men's winning set scores over the Griffins were 25-13, 25-12 and 25-13. Randy Hansen (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) led Carthage with seven kills and a .235 attack percentage, while setter Connor Wexter (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 7.0 assists per set. Scott Ginger topped Fontbonne with four kills.
On Sunday, Feb. 13, Carthage lost to Quincy University (4-5), 3-1, at Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Ill. The Bearcats' winning scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-19.
Ryan Lehmann led Quincy with 14 kills, while Joseph Ascher had 12 kills and a .259 attack percentage. Steven Battaglia collected 11 kills with a .562 attack percentage and eight blocks (1 solo, 7 assisted). Bearcats setters Andrew Ouano averaged 11.75 assists per set. Randy Hansen (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) led Carthage with 14 kills and a .258 attack percentage, while Pat Barry (Fr., Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) had nine kills. Red Men setter Connor Wexter (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 9.50 assists per set.
Carthage travels to Milwaukee on Tuesday, Feb. 15 to play M-III-opponent the Milwaukee School of Engineering (1-6, 0-0 M-III) in a 7 p.m. match at the Kern Center.
