Box Score There was a Carthage half of play and one for Coe College, but the Kohawks (7-2) prevailed over the Carthage College women's basketball team (6-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), 63-57, on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.  The Lady Reds, ranked 31st in the Dec. 6 “D3hoops.com” polls, saw a 13-point first-half disappear, as Coe out-scored Carthage, 38-23, in the second period.
 
Carthage took a 10-9 lead at 12:47.  At that point, the Lady Reds took off on a 22-10 run to up their lead to 13 points, 32-19, at 1:46.  The Kohawks managed to whittle the lead down to nine points at halftime, 34-25.  Coe opened the second period on a 15-6 run to tie the game, 40-40.  The Kohawks inched away to a six-point lead, 48-42, at 6:46.  Carthage got the lead down to two points, 51-49, at 4:20, but Coe went back up by seven, 58-51, at 1:49. 

Trailing by four, 60-56, with 19 seconds to play, Carthage's Diana Jacklin made the front end but missed the back end of a two-shot free throw, and Coe led by three, 60-57.  Megan Hayes was immediately fouled, and she made the back end of two free throws for a four-point lead, 61-57.  Kayla Waskow was fouled at six seconds, and she drained both free throws for the final, 63-57 margin.
 
Coe shot 41 percent (22-54), while Carthage shot 40 percent (22-55).  The Lady Reds had a narrow, three-rebound edge over the Kohawks, 37-34..  Megan Hayes led Coe with 21 points on eight-of-15 field goals and four-of-seven free throws, along with six rebounds.  Kayla Waskow had 13 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and five assists. 

Carthage's Cailee Corcoran (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) scored 21 points on nine-of-21 from the floor, along with nine boards, while Dani Ripkey (Sr., Deerfield, Ill.) added 10 points. 

“We came out in the second half and just didn't have a lot of resolve to finish the game off,” said Carthage head coach Tim Bernero.  “It's hard to explain, but they got after us.  We just weren't aggressive enough or strong enough finishing plays.  We felt like we had this game in our hands, but it got away from us.” (courtesy of the Kenosha News)

Carthage closes out its home, non-conference schedule on Monday, Dec. 12 by playing host to Beloit College in a 7:30 p.m. game, also at Tarble Arena.
